Internet is the ocean of information. Information related to technology, science, arts and many other subjects is available 24x7. But it is sometimes can stand as a source of distraction to the students. And during student phase distraction causes difficulties in learning. For this reason some argues that student should get limited access to the internet.
There are plenty of reasons to support the argument and some of them are inappropriate content, violence, heat speech, pornography, cyberbullying, identity theft etc. These can affect a child mentally and cause harmful consequences. Apart from these internet is full of distraction for students like online games, social media, other forms of entertainment etc. For these, students get inattentive and unfocused in studies. Their education gets negetively impacted. By limiting their access to the internet safeguards them from those kinds of threats and protects their privacy, helps them to focus in studies.
However not all arguments are in favour of limiting the access to the internet for students. One of the main arguments against limiting students’ access to the internet is that it can restrict their access to information and resources. The internet provides students with access to a wealth of information and resources that can be used to support their learning and research. By limiting their access to the internet, it can restrict their ability to access this information and can negatively impact their education.
Another thing is that, with the increase of smartphone useage among students, it can be difficult to ensure that students do not have access to the internet when they are supposed to be in class or studying.
The internet can be a valuable resource for students, again it can also be a source of distraction and harmful contents. Rather than limiting students from accessing internet, it can be a better solution to educate students about the risks and responsibilities of using internet. Also teachers and gurdian should monitor the students when they use internet. Finally, It is important to maintain a balance between protecting students while allowing them to access the resources in the internet.
